Our two-week medical mission in the Philippines has concluded, and what an incredible experience it was! We had the privilege of serving the Filipino people and immersing ourselves in their vibrant culture. Many of our team members have returned home, while others are taking some time to visit family and friends.
During our time there, we saw a large number of patients presenting with common ailments such as coughs and colds, chronic pain, hypertension, and Type 2 Diabetes. Unfortunately, we also observed that many patients struggle to adhere to their prescribed medications, primarily due to financial limitations.
The demand for eyeglasses and women’s sanitary supplies was particularly high, and we unfortunately ran out before we could meet everyone’s needs. We had to turn away some individuals, which was heartbreaking. Witnessing this firsthand highlighted the immense need that exists and fueled our desire to do even more.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the mission was distributing eyeglasses. We witnessed countless individuals who had struggled with blurry vision for years, suddenly experiencing the joy of seeing clearly for the first time. Their gratitude was overwhelming, and it was a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of even the simplest forms of care.
Her question highlighted the financial barriers that many individuals face in accessing basic healthcare. When we assured her that the glasses were free, her face lit up with relief and gratitude. It was a powerful reminder of the profound impact that our mission had on the lives of those we served.
As we were packing up our supplies, two elderly women approached us, desperately wanting a pair of eyeglasses. When they had a chance to try them on, one of them exclaimed, “I can see again!” with the biggest smile on her face. She reached out to our hands and said “Salamat po,” which means thank you in Tagalog. It was a moment that touched our hearts and reaffirmed the importance of our work.
Beyond the eyeglasses, the women’s sanitary supplies were also met with incredible gratitude. One young woman, upon receiving the supplies, beamed and said, “My period is most likely coming tomorrow, and I’m so excited to try these for the first time!” Her simple joy highlighted the often-overlooked needs that exist, and how even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference.
Because of your prayers and generous donations, our medical mission in the Philippines was a resounding success, bringing vital care to those in need. We saw lives transformed, and we are deeply thankful for your partnership in making this impact a reality.
We are excited to continue this work and look forward to future missions!
