Hygiene Program

At GAiN, one of our major focuses on our medical mission trips is to deliver hygiene programs to educate the local community on the importance of toothbrushing and handwashing. We aim to share hygiene packs to those in need and would be very thankful for your partnership in preparing for them either with products or financially.

Oral diseases are one of the most common non-infectious diseases globally and are mostly preventable and treatable in the early phases. Maintaining good oral health is crucial to perform daily functions including eating, speaking, achieving general health and self-confidence. However, oral health conditions disproportionately impacts vulnerable and socially disadvantaged people, and in particular low- and middle-income countries. 

 

This growing burden of oral diseases can be mainly attributed to a lack of access to oral health services, availability of unhealthy, high-sugar foods and insufficient exposure to fluoride (such as that in toothpaste).

Also, did you know that the simple act of handwashing decreases the number of people who get sick with diarrhoea by 23-40%?

While handwashing can save lives and reduce illness, 3 in 10 people around the world lack access to handwashing facilities including soap and water.

If you would like to help make a difference, we would appreciate your partnership either with donations of oral care products or financially.

Products we need for the hygiene packs include:

● Toothbrushes
● Toothpaste
● Hand soap
● Hand sanitiser
● Shampoo
● Combs

If any donation of products is possible, please feel free to reach out to us at gain@globalaid.net.au, where we can arrange pick up from our GAiN team members in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

We love to see groups of people come together to make a difference in the lives of those that need it most. Would you consider running a collection drive and asking people in your church or other group to donate items towards our hygiene program?
