Hope Amidst Hardship: The Resilience of the Vietnamese People

Our pilot Vietnam medical mission was a profound experience, filled with both challenges and triumphs. Despite facing cramped conditions in some clinic sites, our dedicated team persevered, providing much-needed care to a total of 934 patients over eight clinic days.

Common diagnoses included arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and various pain conditions. We were grateful for the opportunity to serve the Vietnamese people and pray that God continues to use us as instruments of His love and healing.

Every day, we are privileged to witness the incredible strength of the human spirit.

From overcoming adversity to simply navigating life’s challenges, the Vietnamese people inspire us with their resilience.

One heartbreaking story involved a woman suffering from numb hands and bleeding haemorrhoids. She was struggling to care for her bedridden son and two grandchildren, relying on a low-paying job washing dishes to support her family. She feared losing her livelihood if her health deteriorated.

Despite the challenges faced by many, we also encountered inspiring stories of resilience and hope. One such story was that of Mrs. Ha, an elderly woman whose family has faced immense hardship. Her husband is paralysed, her son is blind due to a car accident, and her grandson suffers from the effects of Agent Orange. Despite these challenges, Mrs. Ha remains resilient and seeks care for herself.

"I wouldn't be here if I'm healthy.", Mrs. Hong shared.

Another inspiring story involved Mrs. Hong, an 80-year-old woman who travelled for two hours, along with a bus full of 30 other patients, to reach our clinic. “I wouldn’t be here if I’m healthy,” she shared. Leaving her home in the morning, she hadn’t eaten anything, but her determination to receive care was unwavering. She had learned about the clinic through her church, a testament to the powerful impact of community connections.

Often, the greatest gift we can offer is simply to listen, to truly hear their stories.
