The bags are unpacked, the team is finally home, and honestly, our hearts are just full.
We are overflowing with gratitude as we look back on everything that happened during our medical mission to the Philippines this month. Thanks to your support and the hard work of our local partners, we were able to provide free medical care and health education to so many underserved people who truly needed them.
Even though the rain was absolutely pouring down, word about the clinic had spread like wildfire. We were expecting about 100 people, but so many families travelled down from the mountains, determined to get checked out despite the weather.Â
Our team jumped into gear and served 167 patients that day alone. It was exhausting, but seeing the relief on their faces made it the most rewarding day of the mission.
Our doctors, nurses, and volunteers provided checkups and care to a total of 906 people. We saw a lot of chronic pain in people’s backs, necks, and knees, along with quite a bit of high blood pressure and respiratory issues, many of which were coughs caused by smoke exposure.
Beyond the medical checks, we were able to get 445 people fitted with their own pair of eyeglasses and distributed 70 LuoPad kits to women and girls in the villages. We also wanted to make sure we left a lasting impact, so the team ran health education sessions. We talked about everything from clean water and oral hygiene to mental health, giving the community tools to stay healthy long after.
We had one incredible teenage boy volunteer with us who really captured the spirit of the mission. He originally came to us to get his eyes checked, but it turned out his vision was perfect! We gave him a pair of sunglasses instead, and he wore the biggest smile you’ve ever seen.
Another moment we’ll never forget involved an elderly man who had survived nine strokes because of uncontrolled high blood pressure. Right in the middle of a routine checkup, he just broke down in tears. Our doctor and translator stopped everything just to sit and be there for him. He opened up about losing his son a few years ago and the deep grief he’s been carrying ever since.
In that moment, the clinic wasn’t just about medicine; it became a place of healing for his soul.
We sat and prayed with him right there, caring for his heart as much as his physical health. We gave him the medication he needs to prevent more strokes, but seeing him feel truly seen and loved by God was the best part. It was such a massive privilege to be used by God to serve people like him!
Over the last two weeks, you’ve made a tangible difference for so many people in the Philippines.
