From Dirty Water to Dignity: Our Impactful Fiji Mission

Bula, what an incredible 10 days it’s been! Our team just returned from a powerful Fiji Filter of Hope mission. Partnering with Fiji CCC (Campus Crusade for Christ) and local churches, and thanks to your incredible generosity and faithful prayers, we’ve brought the life-changing gift of clean water to 150 households across four Fijian villages. That’s 150 families, a mix of Fijians and Indo-Fijians, who now have direct access to safe drinking water, right in their homes!

The impact of your support is truly profound, and we witnessed it firsthand through the heartfelt stories of the villagers. Imagine this: one man shared how he would pour a jug of water and patiently wait until the next day for the dirt to settle at the bottom before he could even take a sip.

 

Think about that… a 24-hour wait just for a chance at clearer water. Now, with a water filter installed, he has immediate access to clean, safe water.

Another inspiring moment came from a remarkable woman who, after hearing about our distribution from a friend in a nearby village, walked several kilometres just to see if her own family could secure a filter.

Our team was deeply moved and, of course, installed a water filter for her household that very day. These are the powerful human stories behind every filter we distribute.

During our time in Fiji, we conducted a powerful demonstration that truly highlighted the hidden dangers lurking in seemingly clear water. We showed how river water, which often appears clean to the naked eye, revealed its true impurity once we performed a backwash (the process of cleaning the water filters).

The water that emerged was shockingly brown, a stark visual reminder of the unseen contaminants that these filters are now diligently removing, safeguarding families from dangerous waterborne illnesses. It was a powerful moment that underscored the vital importance of these filters.

Beyond Water: Empowering Health and Dignity

In addition to clean water, our mission addressed critical health needs. At a local primary school, our team led a women’s health education session focused on menstruation and personal hygiene. We also distributed reusable LuoPads to ensure girls and female teachers have access to essential sanitary supplies.

 

This initiative truly makes a significant difference in their daily lives, promoting dignity and allowing girls to attend school consistently.
